    AVAILABLE JULY 30th

    One printed book, two subjects.

With the success of the Kickstarter campaigns, I was able to produce this high-quality, beautiful book on writing that you'll be proud to have on your shelf, and will want to reference over and over.

Each Kickstarter special-edition flipbook has two subjects in a single volume. One subject on one side, flip it, and find the second subject on the other side. Unless I do a super-duper special-edition sometime down the road, this printing will always be the best print version of this book.

    Pacing

Whether you’re an experienced author or a totally new writer, Pacing will help you structure engaging stories that compose the timing, rhythm, and tension of your writing into a harmony that will hook your readers and keep them wanting more.

Pacing is divided into a comprehensive introduction and the five "dilemmas" that most often plague authors' pacing. It discusses how to avoid those issues from the start, and fix them if they're already there.

  • A foundational primer on structure
  • Comprehensive discussion on the tools for controlling pacing
  • Techniques to balance pacing
  • Optimizing your writing to keep the gravity of your story end-weighted
  • How to use pacing to create killer tension

The book is capped with a thorough, thoughtful glossary at the end.

I've come around to the opinion that pacing is the single most important facet of storytelling--it's foundational to everything. It will make or break every story.

    Cutting

Is there a more painful part of all writing than having to remove the wonderful parts you've created that just don't work toward making that writing as immersive, accessible, focused, or clear as it can be?

Is there a facet of writing that writers hate and fear more than cutting their darlings? A process more reviled than removing their wonderful, beloved words that grew from within them and spilled, sometimes indecorously, over their pages?

     Probably not.

Cutting comes at this from the hard-nosed perspective of an editor shaded by the soft, squishy heart of a writer. I understand your pain, and I feel it too. But what's got to go has got to go.

    The book:

  • Discusses misunderstandings about cutting
  • Describes methods to cut specifically for things like flow, clarity, or word count
  • Reveals techniques to remove the top 4 types of verbosity
  • Delves into purple prose, research, AI tools, and so much more
  • Teaches how to kill your darlings without cutting too deep or hurting too much

The book includes a thorough, thoughtful glossary at the end.
